Foreword During this quarter we will study a series of lessons based on the subject, That Other Angel. In these studies, the following points, among others, will be highlighted: 1. Why did the other angel have to come? (or, What situation in the church required the coming of another angel after the third angel of Revelation 14?) 2. When did the light of that other angel begin to shine? 3. What message did he bring to the church? (or, What is the purpose of his message as it is presented to the people of God?) 4. How is his message connected with Isaiah 58 and Revelation 3:14–20? 5. How has his message been received? (or, Why has the church continued in the wrong direction, as mentioned in Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 217 and vol. 8, p. 119, in spite of the coming of the other angel?) 6. How and where has the other angel joined the first, second, and third angels? 7.How has the conflicting reception of the other angel (Revelation 18) and his message, since 1888, resulted in the development of two parties of Adventists? 8. How does his message prepare one of the two parties (a faithful remnant) to receive the latter rain and give the loud cry? 9. How will the righteousness of Christ, imputed and imparted, enable the small remnant to receive the seal of God and go through the time of trouble?10.What external work must the angel of Revelation 18 accomplish, particularly under the loud cry? (or, What is his mission, especially in behalf of the honest souls in the fallen churches?)It is important to bear in mind that in The Great Controversy’s chapter “The Time of Trouble,” pp. 613–634, quoted extensively in the last two lessons, not everything refers to the time after the close of probation.May the blessings of God attend the study of these lessons, which we hope will prove to be of real benefit to all believers in the three angels’ messages.
