The power and glory manifested at Christ’s resurrection offer a glimpse of what we can expect at His second coming. The one angel who came down to roll away the tombstone caused a mighty earthquake. The glory that enshrouded the tomb caused hardened men of war to faint away. The Son of Man came forth from the tomb victorious. So, and with much greater display of His power and glory, will He come again to take His fellow victors home with Him.
The power displayed at the resurrection is also a beacon of hope to His disciples. Christ overcame death and sin. Of ourselves, we are helpless and hopeless. Yet in His victory and love, we have hope. As goes the hymn often sung in children’s Sabbath school, “I am weak, but He is strong” – Jesus Loves Me, Hymn #633. Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary means power over sin and power to overcome whatever problems we must endure in our lives.
What are the difficulties you are facing today? Take courage my sister, my brother. Sin can no longer keep us captive. Death is but an inconvenience. “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world,” John 16:33.
“The same power that raised Christ from the dead will raise His church, and glorify it with Him, above all principalities, above all powers, above every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in the world to come,” (The Desire of Ages, p. 787).
“He declared it to be his will that where he was, there his church should be; if he was to have glory, his people must share it with him. They who suffer with him on earth must finally reign with him in his kingdom. In the most explicit manner Christ pleaded for his church, identifying his interest with theirs, and advocating, with a love and constancy stronger than death, their rights and titles gained through him,” (Redemption: Or The Resurrection Of Christ; And His Ascension, p. 21).
Take heart—despite the obstacles we face in our lives, we have a powerful and mighty Advocate. Do not be overcome by the darkness of this world. Claim His precious promises and doubt not His power to fulfill them.
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might," Ephesians 6:10.
