First Sabbath Offering
Sabbath, November 7, 2026 for the GC Publishing DepartmentFor the past years, on the first Sabbath of November, you have been accustomed to reading an appeal in this lesson containing some quotations from the Spirit of Prophecy related to literature distribution, especially emphasizing the need to expand this work—which is perfectly appropriate and timely. This time, however, we would like to share with you some information for a better understanding of this need.A few years ago, we were printing 10,000 Sabbath Bible Lessons in English (available to us at a large-quantity bulk rate.) Currently, this number has dropped to about 2,000 lessons, which unfortunately, involves a much higher production cost per unit. This decrease in printing occurred due to the convenience offered by free online applications (which, on the other hand, is a blessing of technological progress, of course.)Following the global trend, the General Conference has invested in an app where you can study the Sabbath Bible Lessons of the week in your own language. We currently have 22 languages plus links to past lessons in English. You can find the app in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store under the names “Sabbath Bible Lessons,” “Church Hymnal,” or “sdarm.” The app also provides access to children’s lessons and to the Week of Prayer magazine. Our website “sdarm.org” gives you access to past lessons and currently offers the Sabbath Bible Lessons in 53 languages. We recognize and highly appreciate the dedicated work of our volunteer translators. The online presence is excellent, of course—and again, we indeed thank God for the technology. However, it is also true that this does not replace the worldwide need for printed materials as well! The Publishing Department of the General Conference sends free printed copies of the Sabbath Bible Lessons, The Reformation Herald, and the Youth Messenger magazines to more than 30 Missions around the world. This means that these shipments, as well as the printing, are subsidized by the offerings collected each November. At a simple glance, you can already conclude that these offerings do not cover all the costs. For this Sabbath, please plan your offering for literature in advance, so that through it we may do our best to reach more people with the message!
