Kulonyaka, amakota amane sizobe sifunda ngeVangeli Ngokuya NgokukaJohane. Ngaphandle kokungabaza, umbhali wevangeli lesine akazisho ukuthi ungubani, noma enze ubufakazi ngaye njengomunye wabafundi ababili abalandela uKristu kuqala (Johane 1:37). Kunalokho, uzibala “njengomunye umfundi,” lowo mfundi,” “umfundi….lowo amthandayo,” umfundi lowo uJesu amthandayo,”futhi “nguye lomfundi ofakaza ngalezindaba nakulobile lokhu” (Johane 18:15; 19:26; 21:20, 23, 24). Umcijo wokuthi abanye abafundi abadumile babizwa ngamagama kuyilapho igama likaJohane lishiywe ngaphandle, libonakala likhomba ukuthi kungaba nguye umbhali walelivangeli.
Ngokuya ngoMoya weSiprofetho, umbhali wevangeli lesine nguJohane, “umfundi lowo uJesu amthandayo.” Ungomunye wabafundi abathathu ababa ngofakazi benkazimulo kaKristu phezu kwentaba yokuguqulelwa nosizi Lwakhe ensimini ngaphambi kokubanjwa Kwakhe. Ukuphila Kwakhe kuyisibonelo esigqamile esibonisa ukuthi amandla kaNkulunkulu aguqula ngokuphelele “indodana yodumo” yaba ngumuntu ohlelekile onothando futhi onesimo esijulile sokubona okusithekile kwesimoya.
“UJohane wabambelela kuKristu njengomvini onamathela ensikeni ephakeme kakhulu. Ngenxa yeNkosi yakhe waqunga isibindi ezingozini zeholo lokwahlulela futhi walibala esiphambanweni, futhi ezindabeni zokuthi uKristu uvukile, waphuthumela ethuneni, ngentshiseko yakhe edlula ngisho noPeter owayenamawala
“Uthando olunesisa nenkonzo yokuzidela ebonakala ekuphileni nasesimilweni sikaJohane kunikeza izifundo zanamuhla zenani elingenakuchazwa ebandleni lamaKrestu. UJohane ngokwemvelo wayengenabo ubuhle besimilo esavezwa kumava akhe kamuva. Ngokwemvelo wayeneziphambeko ezimbi kakhulu. Ubengazikhukhumezi kuphela, ezethemba, futhi enesifiso sokuhlonishwa, kodwa enamawala, futhi enokucasuka ngaphansi kokulimala. Yena nomfowabo babebizwa ‘amadodana odumo.’ Babenomoya omubi, isifiso sokuphindisela, umoya wokugxeka, konke kwakukhona kumfundi othandekayo. Ngaphansi kwakho konke lokhu uThishela ongcwele wabanakho ukubona inhliziyo eshisekelayo, eqotho, nenothando. UJesu wakhuza ukuzifunela lokhu, wadumaza izifiso zakhe, wavivinya ukholo lwakhe. Kodwa wamembula kuye lokhu umphefumulo wakhe okulangazelayo-ubuhle bobungcwele, amandla othando oluguqulayo.”-The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 539, 540.
Zonke iziphathi-mandla zasendulo zithi ivangeli likaJohane labhalwa e-Efesu phakathi kweminyaka A.D. 90 noma ngaphambili. Umfundi wayefakwe embizeni yamafutha abilayo futhi wasinda ekufeni ngendlela emangalisayo, kamuva wadingiselwa esiqhingini sasePatmose (Isambulo 1:9). Kulapho abhala khona Isambulo. Ukwenyukela kukaNerva esihlalweni sobukhosi (A. D. 96) kwamenza wakwazi ukubuyela e-Efesu, kulapho kukholakala ukuthi waqhubeka ehlala kwaze kwaba sekufeni kwakhe phakathi kokubusa kukaTrajan ngo (A.D. 98-117).
